Before you buy a lifetime deal: questions to ask

#1

Lifetime deals can be good value. They can also be a way of paying once for a product that disappears in a year. A few questions sort one from the other.

About the product

  • How long has it existed?
  • Is it still being updated? Check the changelog.
  • Who is behind it, and can you find them?
  • Does it have paying subscribers as well, or only lifetime buyers?

About the deal

  • What exactly does "lifetime" cover: the product's lifetime, a set number of years, the current version only?
  • Are future features included?
  • What are the usage limits?
  • Is there a refund period?

About the business

  • Does the product have running costs for each user, such as AI usage or storage? If so, how will lifetime buyers be paid for in three years?
  • Why is the company selling lifetime access?

About you

  • Would you pay the monthly price for this today?
  • Will you use it in the next month, or are you buying it for a project you have not started?

If you sell a lifetime deal yourself, tell us how you priced it and whether you would do it again.
