A checklist for the page that has to explain your product to a stranger. It assumes no design training.
Above the fold
- A headline that says what it does and for whom
- One line underneath that says how
- One button
- A picture of the actual product
Below it, in roughly this order
- The problem, in the customer's words
- How the product solves it, in three steps or three features
- Proof: a quote, a number, a logo, a demo
- The price
- Answers to the objections you hear most
- The same button again
Things that make a page look amateur
- More than two typefaces
- Text running the full width of a wide screen
- Stock illustrations that show nothing
- Six different button styles
- Centred paragraphs
- Low contrast grey text
Things that make it look professional with little effort
- Consistent spacing
- Left-aligned body text at a readable width
- Real screenshots
- A page that loads quickly on a phone
