One of the largest decisions a founder makes, and one where survivors' stories drown out everyone else's. We would like the full range.
Reply with:
- Whether you quit, stayed, or went part-time
- What the product was making at the time
- How many months of living costs you had saved
- Who else depended on your income
- What made you decide
- How it turned out
- What you would tell someone deciding now
Questions worth answering honestly before you decide:
- What do you need each month to live, at a minimum?
- How many months can you cover with no income?
- Is the product growing, and how fast?
- Is your job the thing holding the product back, or is something else?
- Could you reduce your hours or take contract work as a middle step?
- What is your plan if it has not worked by a given date?
- Could you get a similar job again?
There is no correct answer. Staying employed while the product grows is a legitimate strategy, and for many people a better one. Accounts from people who went back to a job are especially welcome.
