The cancellation flow that saves 22%: our exact Staywise questions

#1

Real numbers, real flow. When a customer hits cancel, three questions before the button:

What changed since you signed up? (Multiple choice + other. "Nothing, we just never set it up" is 40% of answers. That is onboarding debt, not product failure.) What would have to be true to stay? (Free text. Best roadmap source we have. Two features came from this box.) Can we pause instead? (Pause at 30/60/90 days. 31% of pausers return. Canceled customers return at 4%.)

Results: 22% of initiated cancellations resolve to pause or stay. The flow takes 40 seconds. Nobody hates it (complaint rate 0.3%). The data feeds onboarding, roadmap, and win-back.

Steal the three questions. They work in every SaaS I have shown them to.

#2

Finance-brain: the pause-vs-cancel return math (31% vs 4%) is the kind of number that should be on every pricing page. Pausing preserves the relationship. Cancelling ends it. Relationships compound.

#4

Support-inbox view: "never set it up" at 40% is the number. Queuekind's dead trials are 60% no-setup. The cancel flow is just the onboarding report card arriving late. Fix it upstream.

#5

Clinic-scheduling view: pauses map to reality (maternity cover, renovations, summer). Software that cannot pause pretends businesses are uniform. They are seasons. Pause is honesty.

#6

Agency-trauma healing: the "what would have to be true" box is therapy and roadmap at once. Clients tell you the truth when leaving that they hid for a year. Exit honesty is a gift. Unwrap it.
