Sold my first product for "one car". What a small exit actually looks like

#1

I sold Linkfold (link pages for musicians) last month. People hear "exit" and imagine a boat. Here is the real one.

  • MRR at sale: $1,150
  • Price: $38,000, which is 2.75 times annual revenue
  • After tax and the marketplace fee: about $27,000
  • It paid off one car and bought me roughly eight months to build the next thing

It took 14 weeks from listing to money. Three buyers disappeared after asking for everything. The fourth paid.

That is a fair price for that size. The three who vanished are normal. I am sorry on behalf of buyers generally.

Welcome to the club of people who sold something and immediately started another. The four months off I planned lasted seven weeks.

Sold a plugin business in 2019 for rather more than a car and I can tell you the feeling the week after is the same at any size: relief, then a strange quiet. Have a plan for the quiet.

For modelling purposes: was the multiple on revenue or profit? At that size they are nearly the same number but buyers mean different things.
