Most founders now write code with an assistant. Opinions differ sharply on how much rope to give it.
Reply with your own rules:
- Which tool or tools you use
- What you hand over completely (tests, boilerplate, migrations, whole features?)
- What you always review line by line
- What you never let it touch (production data, secrets, billing code, deploys?)
- A time it went wrong, and what you changed afterwards
Practices that come up repeatedly from people who have been burned:
- Work in a branch and read the diff before merging.
- Keep secrets out of anything the assistant can read.
- Ask for the tests first, then the code.
- Give it small tasks with a clear finish line.
- Be most careful with authentication, payments and anything that deletes.
- Do not paste customer data into a tool unless you know where it goes.
Where do you disagree with that list?
