Recruiting research participants: the Panelkit method (and what users actually say)

#1

Leiden. Researcher turned founder. Panelkit recruits research participants for teams that "talk to users" (sure they do). The method:

Recruit in the product (in-app prompt after value delivered, not at signup; response 12x higher). Pay fast and fairly (same-day incentives, stated upfront; slow pay kills panels). Screen with tasks, not demographics ("show me your last invoice" beats "are you a freelancer"). Close the loop (participants see what changed; second-study acceptance triples).

What users actually say, unfiltered: your onboarding confuses them (always, every product, no exceptions), your pricing puzzles them (the middle tier is mysterious everywhere), and they love the thing you consider minor (the minor thing is the product, you are wrong about your product, lovingly).

Researcher standing ovation: in-product-after-value is the line most teams miss. Signup-moment recruitment gets professional survey-takers. Post-value recruitment gets users. The minor-thing finding is universal: you are wrong about your product, lovingly, always.

Customer researcher co-sign: same-day pay is the whole panel. Slow incentives select for the desperate, fast incentives select for the busy. You want the busy ones. Their time is expensive because their opinions are valuable.

Automation-consultant view: the screen-with-tasks rule applies to hiring too (paid trial tasks beat CVs, Jorge's rehearsal principle again). Tasks reveal, demographics describe. Everything in this thread rhymes.
