Sold my first subscription, then lost it: a 140-MRR post-mortem of a churn

#1

Ibadan. Notedrop. First subscription ever: a lecturer, monthly, joy. Then churned in week three. Post-mortem of one cancellation:

Why: the lecturer never uploaded (our 50% drop-off, the crime Kofi is fixing), no onboarding call offered (we were shy, shyness churns), and the invoice email looked like spam (subject line: "Notedrop Notification #482", deserved to be ignored).

Fixed: upload flow rebuilt (50 to 31%), onboarding call offered to every trial (30% accept, 80% of those activate), invoice email rewritten by a human (me, apologies to copywriters, subject lines now say what happened).

One churn, three fixes, zero shyness remaining. Student founders: shyness is a churn driver. Offer the call.

Notebook solidarity: the same lecturer? No, different one (we compared notes, it is a pattern, not a person). The invoice-email fix is mine to steal: "Notedrop Notification #482" is a crime against inboxes. Rewriting tonight.

Researcher gold: "shyness churns" is a finding. Offer-the-call data (30% accept, 80% activate) is the kind of number that should be in every onboarding guide. Shy founders, read this twice. Then call someone.

Copywriter absolution: the invoice subject fix matters more than any headline I rewrote this month. Transactional email is the most-read copy you own and the least-written. "Your Notedrop receipt: March lectures" beats "#482" forever.
