Run your idea through these. Write the answers down. Gaps are fine and they tell you what to find out next.
- Who exactly has this problem? Could you name five real people or companies?
- How do they solve it today?
- What does the current way cost them?
- How often does the problem come up? Daily problems sell more easily than yearly ones.
- Have they already tried to fix it? People who have looked for a solution are much better prospects than people who have only complained.
- Who decides to buy, and who pays?
- Can you reach these people? Where are they, and can you get in front of them repeatedly?
- Why would they switch to you? Being slightly better is rarely enough to overcome the hassle of changing.
- What would they pay, judging by what they pay for similar things?
- Why you? What do you know or have access to that makes this easier for you than for someone else?
Post your idea with your answers. Mark the ones you are guessing. The replies will concentrate on those.
Questions 2 and 7 sink more ideas than any others. If nobody is doing anything about the problem today, it may not be painful enough. If you cannot reach the buyers, the product does not matter.
