Your first paying customer: how did they find you?

#1

The first sale from a stranger is the hardest one, and the route to it is rarely the one the founder planned.

If you have had yours, reply with:

  • What you sell and the price they paid
  • Where they first heard of you (be exact: the post, the directory, the search query, the friend)
  • How long between first contact and payment
  • Whether you spoke to them before they paid
  • What you had tried before that did not work

If you have not had yours yet, reply with what you have tried so far and how long you have been at it. Members who are a few steps ahead can usually see the gap quickly from the outside.

Common patterns worth checking your own story against: a first customer often comes from a direct conversation rather than from a page, often from a place the founder was already active in, and often after the price or the promise was made narrower.
