Posting in Marketing & Distribution: bring the numbers

#1

Marketing advice is cheap and mostly unfalsifiable. This section tries to be the exception by asking for specifics.

When you share what worked or did not, include:

  • The channel, named exactly. "A post in a 40,000-member subreddit for bookkeepers" beats "Reddit".
  • What you did: the post, the offer, the frequency
  • Time and money spent
  • What came back: visits, signups, paying customers
  • Whether it repeats, or was a one-off

When you ask for help, include:

  • What you sell, to whom, at what price
  • What you have tried and for how long
  • How much time per week you can give to marketing
  • Whether you have any audience or list already

House rules:

  • Report failures as carefully as successes. "Three months of blog posts, 40 visits" saves someone three months.
  • No growth hacks that rely on spam, fake accounts or misleading people.
  • A month is rarely long enough to judge a channel that compounds. Say how long you ran it.
