Every builder tool has a point where it starts to push back. Knowing where that is before you hit it is worth a lot.
Reply with:
- The tool and what you built on it
- Where it hurt: speed, record limits, price, logic that got too tangled, something it could not do at all
- Your size at the time: users, records, monthly bill
- What you did: paid for the next tier, added a second tool, rebuilt part of it, rebuilt all of it
- Whether you would start on it again
Limits that founders mention most often:
- Pricing that jumps sharply at a record or user threshold
- Pages that slow down as the data grows
- Workflows that become impossible to follow or test
- No proper staging environment
- Difficulty getting your data out
- Permissions that cannot express what the business needs
The answer to "would you start on it again?" is very often yes. Getting to paying customers quickly on a tool you later outgrow is usually a better outcome than a careful custom build that nobody uses.
