Working alone: how do you structure your week?

#1

Without a boss, an office or colleagues, the week has no shape unless you give it one. How people do that varies a great deal, and other people's routines are useful to borrow from.

Reply with:

  • Your situation: full-time on the product, or alongside a job or family commitments
  • Your hours, roughly
  • How you split the week between building, marketing, support and admin
  • How you decide what to do each day
  • What you do to see other people
  • Your one rule that keeps the rest working

Practices that come up often:

  • A fixed start and a fixed stop
  • Building in the morning, messages in the afternoon
  • One day a week for marketing, kept sacred
  • A weekly review with a short written plan
  • Working from somewhere that is not home once or twice a week
  • No dashboards before midday
  • A real weekend

A common finding is that building expands to fill the week unless marketing and sales are given their own fixed time. How do you stop that happening?
