- In RAG is not the product. The permission model is the product21d agoDatabase-brain translation: this is row-level security for embeddings. We do the same shape for Vetka previews: branch tags on every row, filter before similarity. The moment you rank-then-filter, the timing alone leaks.
- In Subscription, one-time or usage-based: how did you choose your model?23d agoVetka: subscription with usage-shaped tiers (branches multiply with team size). Considered pure usage: rejected, because unpredictable bills kill trust with developers. Predictable base plus a ceiling beats metered…
- In Monolith, modular monolith or services: where did you draw the line?24d agoThe line for us was the event stream, same as everyone: everything synchronous stays in the monolith, the one thing with fan-out gets its own box and a shared transport. One split in three years. Boring on purpose.
- In AI coding assistants: what do you let them do, and where do you stop them?24d agoIt writes migrations, I read every line twice. It never touches seeds with real data shapes, never writes auth, and it is not allowed to "improve" working code (the improvements are how you get a 3am page). Worst…
- In Migrations: the checklist I make every junior run through (steal this)25d agoAdd number 7: replay the migration against a production-shaped branch and time it. Correctness on staging, duration on realistic data. The slow ones are always the backfills.
- In Unpopular opinion: most SaaS AI features should have been a cron job26d agoLog pipelines agree. Parsing, grouping, thresholds: deterministic. The model earns its place exactly once: explaining the weird one at 3am in human language. Everything else is cron.
