A build log is one thread where you post what you shipped, as you ship it. It is the simplest habit that keeps a solo project moving.
Set it up:
- One thread per product. Put the product name in the title.
- First post: what it is, who it is for, where it stands today, and what "launched" will mean.
- After that, reply to your own thread each time something ships.
Each entry:
- Shipped: what changed, with a screenshot or link if there is one
- Took: roughly how long
- Surprised me: the thing that was harder or easier than expected
- Next: the one thing you will do next
What makes a log worth reading:
- Real numbers, even small ones
- The dull parts: billing, emails, account deletion, the things nobody shows off
- Decisions and the reasons for them. "Dropped teams for v1 because none of the first five users asked for it."
A log also gives you something to link when you launch. Three months of entries is proof that the product is alive and that somebody is behind it.
